Last week I mentioned that I might be absent for a few days due to moving. I was confident in my William Morris purging efforts of the last year to help make this move easier than the last one. Boy howdy, was I wrong! My stuff is like tribbles. I can hardly believe it, and honestly, it was rather disheartening. {not to mention completely mortifying to ask friends to help move box upon box full of unknown, unloved items}
Then, every single one of us got the flu.
Two weeks later, I have hidden most of the boxes in the basement and have yet to unpack my suitcase.
But, what is moving without a slew of before pictures? Here are photos taken yesterday, they only cover the main rooms on the first floor, but it's a start! Bear with me, I am out of practice and rather rambly.
About the house:
It was built in 1906, 4 bedrooms, two bathrooms, a full, unfinished basement and attic, and duelling living rooms. I call the one with the fireplace 'the parlor'. There is a dining room, but since there's carpet everywhere we eat in the kitchen. {Also because its actually big enough to fit a table inside!} It's almost like eating at the kitchen table at Buca di Beppo, although I'd like it to feel like the kitchen in the House of Black. As with most old houses the kitchrn and bathrooms were lovingly remodelled in the late seventies or early eighties. I won't complain, because it could be much, much worse. Having all the woodwork and pocket doors intact on the first floor makes up for nearly everything. Ok, enough talk! Let's wander through.

There is an amazing plate rail in the dining room that I am using to store all my artwork temporarily until I know where to hang it. I almost like it, but the rest of the house is so bare!
In the kitchen, looking into the parlor.
Looking back into the kitchen again.
The furniture is just kind of where it landed when it left the moving truck, and I have no clue where to hang artwork. There is picture rail upstairs, but not on the first floor, so I have to choose carefully. Any ideas?
Also, the parlor has me kind of stumped as far as what to put in it at all, other than a Giant christmas tree.
